“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1, ESV)
There is no place for fear in David’s life or in the life of anyone who knows the LORD. The questions David asks in today’s verse are rhetorical, almost as if he is saying, “Away from me, fear. You have no place here.” David could speak this boldly because he knew the One who gave him confidence.
We can’t fully trust anyone or anything we don’t know well. So, we must ask ourselves: What matters most: faith itself or the object of our faith? Faith is only as strong as the One we place it in.
Before I learned to turn my fears over to God, I needed to know for certain that God is real and that the Bible is truly His Word—not simply because Scripture says so (Genesis 1; 2 Timothy 3:16), but because God invites us to seek, to ask, and to examine. Honest questions do not threaten him.
Even creation points us toward Him. The Law of Causality reminds us that everything with a beginning, including our universe, must have a cause. The Law of Inertia shows that an object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. These principles echo what Scripture declares: God set all things in motion and breathed life into existence (Genesis 1). Science does not stand apart from God’s truth; it quietly affirms it.
History does the same. The New Testament stands on solid historical ground. Archaeologists and historians have uncovered thousands of artifacts, documents, and verified locations that affirm what we read in the Bible. These discoveries don’t replace faith, but they support it. They remind us that the story of Jesus unfolded in real places, among real people, and has been preserved with amazing accuracy.
When we know God is real and trust His Word, fear begins to lose its grip. It doesn’t vanish overnight, but it no longer controls us. Like David, we learn to speak to fear with confidence—not because we are strong, but because the LORD is our light and our salvation. He is strong! His presence pushes back the darkness. His truth anchors our hearts. His faithfulness gives us courage for whatever we face.
Fear may whisper, but it cannot rule where God’s light shines.
Closing Prayer: Lord, You are our light and our salvation. When fear rises, remind us of who You are and of the truth You have spoken. Steady our hearts with Your presence, strengthen our faith, and help us walk in the confidence that comes from knowing You. Amen.
